Cycling Kit for Long Rides

Cycling Kit is important if you want to make your ride a little more enjoyable, even moreso if it’s a long haul ride such as an Audax, or Sportive ride over 100 miles.  Not everything is essential but these are a few of the things I have personally used and found to be good to share with you all. I sometimes like to record my event or long ride and have communication with friends and family with GPS tracking and social media sites to share my progress.

Cycling over 4,500 miles in a year during 2016 cycling across the UK and venturing into Europe with every kind of weather gives you a little knowledge of what works and what’s failed when it comes to cycling equipment. Waterproof clothing on a bike is essential as the weather changes in the blink of an eye. It’s what I will talk about in the future blog. You may notice my new photos show a Boardman bike and not my Cannondale, yes……I have joined Team Boardman at last and have purchased the Team Carbon 2016. She is fast but this weekend during the 24 hour London 2 Paris ride I will discover how comfortable she is and how she handles an endurance ride of almost 200 miles.

I’ve created a list of accessories that have helped me in recent years and what I will be using again for my London 2 Paris 24 hour ride this weekend.

  • A-Frame holdall (Waterproof Micro Top & extras)
  • Waterproof Mobile Phone Frame Mount
  • Garmin GPS Bar Mount (Garmin Tour)
  • 5x Cree LED light (Also have a 1 cree)
  • VOLT 100 CatEye Backup light USB Charged
  • Waterproof HD Video on Bar Camera
  • ToPeak Top frame Waterproof Bag (For my Batteries)
  • Seat Bag for money, cards, bike repairs & tubes
  • Bottle Holders x2 (Water & Electrolytes)

The additional accessory i’m taking on the London 2 Paris weekend ride is a small 10 LTR backpack for my camera & extra layer jacket due to forecast of (zero) 0 degrees and heavy rain. It’s going to be a challenging challenge for sure. On my arrival, I’m running the Paris Half Marathon with a group of friends. My follow-up blog will reveal details on how to track the ride and run. It kicks off Friday 4th March at 4pm from Marble Arch London. We leave Dieppe at 4am and hope to arrive under the Eiffel Tower in under 24 hours of riding.
