Adventurous – British – Love a Challenge – Cycling is my New Addiction

It’s an actual honour when someone says you’re totally mental when they hear some of the things I’ve done over the years, as the saying goes though, you got to use it or lose it.

I’m passionate about living life to the full, treating everyday like it’s your last and for the sake of humanity…….”BUY THE BIKE” Life really is too short.

Climbing mountains, running long distance, setting a British Record and winning cars to Cycling Britain are a few of my accolades, dodging the odd avalanche along the way has kept a smile on my face.

I’m privileged and feel honoured to be blog writing on Cycle with Del, about my experiences and the journey I’m currently on. Cycling the length of Britain (Jogle), then Coast to Coast (Weston-super-Mare to Margate) was all made possible through hard work and training, made that much easier courtesy of Del. The journey continues on 2 wheels having cycled Britain it’s time to venture into Europe with a few more challenges that will be posted prior to each event and how the story unfolds.

The Video above is one from my 7x7x7 marathon running challenge in May 2014, following in the footsteps of Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

2015 was my first year on 2 wheels, my first bike was a Carrera Virtuosa 2013, cycling with Del soon made me realise I needed a better bike and was intrigued on how to get fitter on 2 wheels to be able to complete the challenges that were planned, different muscles from my years of running and trekking.

There’s rarely a week I am not out on my new set of wheels, Cannondale CAAD8, not so new anymore as 2015 was a 4,000+ mile year of riding and my bike was an entry level part aluminium and front carbon forks. It really is true, if it’s not on Strava, it never happened. Strava has become a favourite cycling app along with my Garmin Tour GPS which I will blog about in the coming months.

The highlight to my week is getting out early on a Saturday for the long ride with the lads, a mixture of distance, helping new cyclists achieve cycling landmarks and goals along with the “Cake and the Coffee” stops, not forgetting the ultimate reward of a good fry-up breakfast mid ride.

It’s Del who persuaded me to get out on a bike and since January 2015 I havn’t looked back, who knows what mileage will be reached this year but I am very competitive and am sure I can beat my 4,000 miles.

Music inspires me, lyrics and top tunes, favourite bands are “One Republic” and “Imagine Dragons” they get me up those hills, check them out.

My job is web design and seo for the internet searches, I am obsessed with gadgets and slowly becoming a “Bike Stalker”, trawling websites for the latest carbon frames and top rated road bike wheels.

It’s all about sharing the experiences and making memorable moments, “it’s not about the destination but the journey”. This year looks to be as adventurous as the last and with some epic rides to follow, 24 hour challenges, Audax distance rides, a few Sportives and checking out some of the top cycle routes of Britain.
